A guest checks out and the hotel's system posts the turnover. A humanoid does the heavy half: strips the bed, empties the bins, vacuums. The parts it can't do well yet, it posts to a housekeeper on shift. The room goes back on sale only when both halves are verified.

A hotel room turned over by a humanoid and a housekeeperA hotel room from above. The guest checks out, and the door lock and occupancy sensor confirm the room is empty. A humanoid robot comes in, strips the bed, empties the bin and vacuums the floor, while a small linen robot waits in the corridor. The humanoid then posts a follow-up task, and a housekeeper comes in to make the bed and set the towels, and finds a watch on the nightstand. Five checks tick: room empty, floor covered, bed made, lost property checked, matches the hotel's standard. Verified, and a receipt prints: room 412 ready, a four-dollar bonus.CORRIDORLOCK1 ITEM FOUNDCHECKOUT 11:02ROOM 412A · HUMANOIDSTRIP · VACUUMB · HOUSEKEEPERPOSTED BY H-12CHECKSROOM EMPTYFLOOR COVEREDBED MADELOST PROPERTYMATCHES STANDARDVERIFIEDROOM 412 READYBONUS $4.00

§ 01

Half for the humanoid. Half for a person.

Humanoids can lift a mattress, haul linen and vacuum all day. Fitted sheets, folded towels and spotting the watch someone left behind are still better done by people. A room needs both.

Who asks
The hotel's property system, the minute a guest checks out. Then the humanoid itself, for the parts it can't do well yet.
Who does it
A humanoid strips the bed, empties the bins and vacuums. A housekeeper on shift makes the bed, sets the towels and checks for lost property. A linen robot takes the laundry.
Evidence only
The door lock and the occupancy sensor. They do none of the work; they say the room is empty before anyone goes in.
Pay
The humanoid's work is internal. The housekeeper gets a $4 bonus per room on top of wages, or it's simply part of the shift. Example figures.
You get
A room marked ready only when both halves are verified, and one proof for the whole turnover.
Example · photo to come

The humanoid does the heavy half. It knows which half it isn't good at yet, and asks.

The short version

Nobody has to split the work by hand. The humanoid finishes its part and posts the rest, and the hotel gets one proof for the room, not two loose ends.

Harbor House, room 412 and humanoid H-12 are fictional. Prices are illustrative.

§ 02

Performer in one task. Requester in the next.

The same humanoid, under the same identity, does Task A and posts Task B. The room goes back on sale only when both are verified.

TASK A · TURNOVERASKSHOTEL SYSTEMDOESHUMANOID H-12+ LINEN ROBOTPROOFSENSORS + MAPTASK B · FINISHASKSHUMANOID H-12DOESHOUSEKEEPERPROOFLIVE PHOTOSSAME ROBOTNEW ROLEBOTH VERIFIEDROOM 412 · READY

No special case in the protocol: a machine can hold either role, as long as every task it posts traces back to the hotel.

§ 03

From checkout to ready, in six steps.

A system asks, a machine works and then asks, a person finishes. Two devices make sure nobody walks in on a guest.

  1. 01

    Checkout

The guest checks out. The property system posts the turnover the same minute.

  2. 02

    Empty first

The door lock and the occupancy sensor confirm nobody is inside before any robot goes in.

  3. 03

    Task A: the humanoid

Strip the bed, empty the bins, vacuum, wipe down the bathroom. The linen goes out on a robot cart.

  4. 04

Task B, posted by the humanoid

Fitted sheet, folded towels, a lost-property check. The humanoid posts these to the housekeepers on shift.

  5. 05

    Finish

A housekeeper makes the bed and sets the towels, photographing each step live in the Teleport app.

  6. 06

    Room ready

When both tasks are accepted, the property system marks the room clean. A found item gets its own custody task.

§ 04

Five rules and one look at the bed.

The model compares the made bed and the bathroom with the hotel's own reference photos. Everything else is a rule. A versioned policy, not the model, makes the decision.

The humanoid's own evidence (its coverage map and cameras) caps Task A at Verified. The housekeeper's live photos back Task B. Not sure about the bed? The room shows “needs a look” to the supervisor, not ready.

§ 05 · Privacy and the humanoid's own mandate

Cameras on only when the room is empty.

A hotel room is someone's private space until they've left. The humanoid's cameras work only after the lock and the sensor agree the room is empty, and the only guest belonging anyone sees is a cropped photo of something left behind.

A machine's own small mandate, inside the hotel's. Its hash goes into every task it posts.

§ 06

What needs care.

A private room, a machine that can hire, and people whose work shouldn't be timed. Each needs a rule, not good intentions.

  • A guest's room, until it isn't

Cameras work only once the lock and the sensor agree the room is empty. Nothing of a guest's belongings leaves the room except a cropped photo of something left behind.

  • When a guest comes back

If the lock shows someone coming in, the humanoid stops, leaves and the task pauses. Coming back for a phone charger isn't something to film.

  • Nobody ranked by speed

Pay and matching never depend on how fast someone made a bed. The checks are about the room, not the stopwatch.

  • The bonus is on top

On shift, finishing a room is part of the job. Where there's a bonus, it's paid on top of wages, never instead of them.

  • Lost property, signed for

A found item is bagged, photographed and handed to the front desk as its own custody task, so it can't vanish between two members of staff.

  • A small mandate for a machine

The humanoid can post finishing tasks for the room it's working, to people on shift, up to $4. It can't hire outside the hotel or spend any other budget.

§ 07

One room, two tasks, one proof.

The receipt shows both halves of the work and who asked for each: the hotel's system for one, the humanoid for the other.

Dollars pay the housekeeper's bonus. The proof shows the work. Nobody needs $PORT to post a turnover or get paid for one.

For builders.

An EXTERNAL_WEBHOOK at checkout, a DIRECT task to the humanoid fleet, and a follow-up posted by a HUMANOID requester under its own mandate. The room-ready decision belongs to the workflow.

Proposed additions this use case surfaced

Escalation standing order
Humanoid step, then human finish, then room ready, as one template the hotel sets once instead of a task the humanoid improvises each time.
Sub-mandates for machines
A small mandate for one machine, nested inside the hotel's, scoped to the rooms it's working and capped per room.
Reference assets
The room-type photos the model compares against, hashed into the proof so “the standard” can't quietly change afterwards.
Occupancy-gated capture
Evidence capture allowed only while a device attests the space is empty, and the proof records that it did.
Custody chains
A found item passed from housekeeper to front desk to guest, each handoff signed. The same gap shows up with lost property in a robotaxi.

Example economics: the humanoid's task is internal ($0). The housekeeper's finish pays a $4 bonus on top of wages, or nothing extra when it's part of the shift. The hotel pays for verification. Developer docs
