Use case · worked example

A coffee shop, filmed on schedule.

A robotics team needs 360° video of real coffee shops at the morning rush, at lunch and at closing. Teleport posts each slot as a task. Someone already in the shop claims it, records 60 seconds from the marked spot, and is paid once the capture checks out.

A 360° capture at the 8:00 slotA coffee shop from above during the morning rush, with a queue at the counter. The clock reaches eight. A customer walks from the door to a taped mark in the middle of the room and turns once; the phone's view sweeps all the way round and a ring closes at 360 degrees. Five checks tick: in the store, on time, a full turn, 52 seconds long, the right shop. Verified, and a receipt prints: paid ten dollars.DOOR360°THE MARK08:00±15 MINCHECKSIN STOREON TIME360°52 SRIGHT SHOPVERIFIEDPAID $10.00EXAMPLE

§ 01

Three slots a day. Whoever's already there.

Robots that work in cafés have to learn from cafés: the queue, the crowd, the chairs in odd places. Specific rooms, at specific times, many times over.

Who asks
A robotics company, directly or through its data agent within a budget it sets.
Who does it
A customer or a barista already in the shop. Onboarded first, never an anonymous walk-in.
Where
Only shops that signed up as site partners, on their terms.
Evidence
Captured live in the Teleport app: 360° video, motion sensor and GPS, nothing from the camera roll.
Pay
$10 per accepted capture, to a card, a bank or USDC. Example figure.
You get
Footage that proves where, when and how it was captured, and that permission was given.

The robot needs to know what 8 a.m. on a Monday looks like. Somebody's already standing in it.

The short version

Every task is the same small job: one minute, one spot, one slow turn. Almost all of it can be checked by rule, which is why it can pay as soon as it's accepted.

Café 0417 is a fictional shop. Prices are illustrative.

§ 02

Same café. Three different rooms.

The robotics team doesn't want a café. It wants this café at the rush, at lunch and at closing. The mark on the floor stays put; everything around it changes.

17:00 · Window 16:45–17:15Two stragglers. Chairs going up. One croissant left, and nobody's claiming it.

§ 03

From alert to paid, in six steps.

A capture is short. Most of the work is making sure it's the right room, at the right time, with the shop's permission.

  1. 01

    Schedule

One task per consenting shop, per slot, in the shop's own time zone.

  2. 02

    Alert

People already inside the shop hear first. Then the radius widens.

  3. 03

    Claim

Claimed. The slot is yours for 10 minutes. Drop it and it goes back to the pool.

  4. 04

    Capture

Stand on the mark. Chest height. One slow turn. That's the job.

  5. 05

    Verify

Place, time, coverage and quality are checked by rule. One question goes to a model.

  6. 06

    Pay + prove

Paid on accept. The proof records the shop, the time, the consent and the rights.

§ 04

Six of seven checks are arithmetic.

The seventh asks one question: is this the right café? That one goes to a model. A versioned policy, not the model, makes the decision.

Not sure about the café? The contributor sees “pending review, usually within the hour”, not silence. From the camera roll? Live capture only.

§ 05 · Consent and redaction

At 8:00 the shop is full. That's why the robotics team wants 8:00, and why every face, screen and the till are covered before the file leaves Teleport.

A cut of every accepted capture

No sign-up, no slot. Its hash goes into every proof from this shop.

§ 06

What needs care.

Filming inside a business, with people in it, for someone else's training data. Without these, it's a privacy problem, not a data product.

  • The shop says yes first

Filming a business for a third party needs the business. No site partner, no slot. The shop sets the rules and gets a cut.

  • Bystanders, covered

The busy slots are the point, so people are in frame. Faces and screens are covered by default; unblurred people would be a different, consented product.

  • Pay on accept, trust earned

Live capture only, attested app, trusted timestamps, the shop's QR code. A new contributor's first captures are reviewed before pay.

  • Baristas, only if the shop agrees

Leaving the counter for a third party's task can clash with the job. The shop decides, and may route the pay to the tip jar.

  • A sweep isn't true 360°

A phone turning slowly makes a panoramic sweep. A 360° camera films every direction at once. The task says which it wants, and prices it.

  • Nobody in the shop?

Slots have a window, pay rises as it closes, and a shop can install a fixed 360° camera to cover the gaps.

§ 07

Where, when, how, and with whose permission.

The receipt is part of what the robotics team is buying: a dataset where every clip carries where it came from, the consent it was taken under and the right to train on it.

Dollars or USDC pay the contributor. The proof shows the work. Nobody needs $PORT to post a slot or get paid for one.

Proposed additions this use case surfaced

Site consent
The property owner's permission as a first-class object: zones, capture types, hours, revenue share, expiry. Checked at posting like a mandate; its hash goes in the proof.
Campaign
A template × a list of sites × a schedule × a budget, producing the per-slot tasks. The same primitive as a restaurant camera's watch rule, with a schedule trigger instead of a detection.
Redaction
What evidence must have covered before delivery, and a proof flag that it was. The default for any capture in a shared space.
Capture vocabulary
VIDEO_360 vs. PAN_SWEEP, with measurable thresholds, so “360°” is checked mechanically and priced honestly.
Payout timing
On accept, on accept once trusted, or in a batch, as policy, plus a hold for new contributors.

Example economics: $18 to the requester, $10 to the contributor; the rest covers verification, redaction, the proof and the shop's share. Developer docs
